The return of The Cranky Woman is not so much a rail against all the ridiculous, overwrought, hyperberbolic blathering of the media over the - count ‘em– first 23 days of the Obama Presidency — or tonight’s applause for the most incredible Obamaesque speech I’d heard  in a long time — but the mere trifle of Michele Obama’s dress.   Oh, come on, you’ll say, what’s the issue?  She has her style, she has her look — but starting with the inauguration (I won’t go into what I thought of that outfit, although the inauguration dress was ”different”) – I say — puleez!  Dress to the occasion:  This was the most important speech of the President’s short tenure and you wear a no sleeve, v-neck – albeit great color on you — dress!  Yikes!!  This was a joint meeting of Congress!  It’s not a “nice-of-you-to-drop-by-after-tea” occasion!  Wear a coat, wear a jacket, wear a suit!  It’s all well and good to promote the cause of American design, but really!  I’ve watched Project Runway and — well — huh? 

Sorry, people, it’s been a very long day — no, it’s been a very long, long 23 days!  After the sturm and drang  of the past few weeks, and after tonight’s brilliance, I just wanted it to be just right!

The crankiness comes not so much  from a bad mood but from a passion for all things: 

* Politics (I am part of the demographic that parties either drool over or ignore depending on the election year — a senior woman — so the woman part means I was extremely popular in 2008)

* Movies - I love almost everything but stop short of movies that insult or pander to the lowest common denominator (hear that Judd Apatow and the Farley Brothers?)

* Sports

* Art

* Literature

* And, always, the human condition

– and a desire to have a conversation about them.  I have been told that I view things with some cynicism, but I hope you will find my comments whimsical, interesting and hopefully humorous.
